The Winner Is . . .

A BIG thanks goes out to all of you who submitted an entry to the “Name the Buffalo Contest!”  The Great Plains Trail Alliance really appreciates the effort and creativity that was poured into the naming of our “mascot” on our logo.  We had some great  submissions from comments on the blog as well as from email.  It wasn’t easy, but the time has come to announce the eventual winner who was chosen by our Board of Directors this week:  The GPTA  is proud to announce Mike McDanield of Overland Park, Kansas our winner with his entry “ABE – American Bison Extraordinaire.”  The Board liked the acronym as well as its dignified connotations (it harkens back to Abe Lincoln).  Let’s think of our mascot as the “elder statesman” of the trail.

Mike will receive a GPTA hat with ABE taking center stage on the front.  Again, thanks to all who participated, and congratulations to Mike!

Great Plains Trail Alliance was formed from an inspiration that began in 1991 when founder Steve Myers took a trip from Minnesota to Wyoming. On the way, he was struck by the beauty of the open spaces west of the Missouri River. He wanted a way to experience this landscape more fully. Not long after, the seed of an idea for the Great Plains Trail was planted.
